Modern air conditioning units come with auto timers. You can time your air conditioners. This would ensure that you AC are not running while you are at work. You can set your unit to turn on an hour early before your arrival from work and you will find the place cool enough for your comfort. If there is no procedure to time the AC unit, you should set the same by 12 to16 degrees higher than normal when you are at work or out on road. Better still, you can simply switch it off for the duration you are at work.

You should make it a point to use energy saving CFLs. They use about 76 percent less energy than conventional bulbs and yet give out the same amount of light. Bulbs also emit heat which again adds up to the overall heat inside homes. You should remember to switch off lights when you’re not at home to save on energy.

You can use window screens or even blinds. Since sunlight creates lot of heat when it strikes windows, so you can stop that by adding awnings to windows will help you keep the environs really cool. These awnings are capable of reducing the temperature at homes from 12 to 18 percent depending upon the types use.
